Is it possible to keep your house and your business running smoothly?

Is it possible to keep your house and your business running smoothly?

With many people working from home, the line drawn between office hours and home hours is often very blurry. Sometimes it feels as though the hours overlap and it’s not obvious where work ends, and home begins.

It’s not uncommon for someone to be answering a business phone call while loading the dishwasher. Or booking a meeting to finish in time to make the school run. Or helping with homework while catching up on accounts and admin. How many times have you worked late into the night when your daytime hours have been spent caring for others?

This is where having a system in place at home, as well as for your business, can make sure everything gets done. I can show you how it’s possible to keep your home clean and tidy without it impacting on your business work or family life. Just as a tidy desk can symbolise a tidy mind, having an organised household routine can take the pressure off running your business.

Get Started

To get started is the top tip. Today can be the day you make the changes. This is the first step to turning things around. Instead of chasing your tail, you can take control of your tasks and your time.

Structure makes home & work life easier
Structure makes home & work life easier

Involve Others

If you have a partner or family members who can help, involve them. Make it known that it’s everyone’s job to help around the house. Create a rota for tasks. Even if you think it is easier to do something like the laundry yourself, add up how many hours this takes each week. If you can delegate the task to another family member, you can free up your time for something else. You can introduce incentives or rewards based on the type of task, the amount of time, or the complexity.

There may come a point when it becomes cost effective to outsource household chores like laundry, ironing, loading and unloading the dishwasher, hoovering, dusting, making the beds, walking the dog and washing the car. Perhaps investing in having a cleaner once a week could help. Is it worth the price of having extra hours for yourself and for family time?

Group Tasks

Just as you might tackle a business project by grouping tasks together you can do exactly the same at home. If you have a batch of invoices to send out, you might do them one at a time, or you might do them all on a Friday evening.

The same principle applies when keeping your home and your business running smoothly. You can group tasks and allocate them to mornings or afternoons or assign them to a particular day of the week. If you have free time on Tuesday mornings, can you make that the time when you blitz the cleaning? If you put a time limit on the task it can help keep you accountable and make sure the time doesn’t drift away.

Accept Imperfection

It can be extremely hard for many business owners to accept things can’t be perfect all the time. High performers, ambitious, driven, successful, there is an inbuilt expectation for perfection, from themselves and those around them. In reality, dust happens, washing needs to be done, children need to be dropped off and collected from school and these things don’t always go to plan.

It might rain just as you’re about to put the washing out. A child may be sick during the day and need collecting early. Dusting seems to be a never-ending chore, especially if you have cats and dogs.

This is where I help my clients restore order at home and in the workplace. I’ll work with you to create responsibility lists and achievable accountability action plans that work for everyone.

Click here for more information and a free discovery call, let’s get your house and your business running smoothly.

How creating systems and processes can simplify your business

Every business has various systems and processes in place. These are the tasks you do and the order in which they are done. Over time, you might review your systems and make refinements, tweaking your processes to cut out redundant steps, or adding layers to the system as your company grows.

You might have a system in place for taking orders with various processes to make sure the tasks are not just done, but they are done in the right sequence. Having a system for this means the tasks are carried out in the same sequence each time, using the processes which you create in advance.

Your order process might be to receive an order via email or telephone, then check items are in stock, then confirm the order to the customer, then take a payment, then dispatch the product and reorder the item if needed.

But each process can also be broken down into steps. Perhaps you have multiple sales staff with individual e-mailboxes to check for new orders. Perhaps checking if items are in stock involves someone driving to the warehouse or viewing a stock spreadsheet in the office. Perhaps payments are received in cash, which then needs to be taken to the bank by a certain time of the day.

From the customer’s point of view, they have placed an order with you, but in behind the scenes many steps may need to be taken to deliver what they have asked for.

I specialise in helping companies identify their processes, right down to the micro-steps and I help you get into the nitty-gritty detail of what happens, when, by whom and why. This is a process in itself and it often leads to uncovering timewasting activity, finding redundant steps, increases staff productivity and consequently helps you save time and money.

This is where spending a little time “working on your business”, rather than “working in your business”, really does help.

Having systems and processes in place means:

  • Work is carried out to a consistent standard.
  • If a member of staff is absent, another employee can carry out their tasks.
  • Training new staff or temporary workers is much easier.
  • You can measure performance and monitor changes.
  • Customers receive the same level of service every time they use your company.

Having an outside opinion can identify things which you take for granted, but in reality, they are things you no longer need to do. If you are waiting until 10am for a cheque to arrive in the post before making calls to chase clients for outstanding payments, you may find this is no longer required and you could skip this step and start chasing outstanding payments first thing. In fact, you might even choose to automate payment reminders by text or email, saving human hours on a recurring task.

Regularly reviewing your systems can highlight areas where you can make changes and identify better ways of doing things.

If you feel your business would benefit from a systems overhaul or a process review, please contact me by emailing rachael@rachaelchiverton.co.uk or by telephoning me on 07756 772950 and I will be happy to work with you to make sure your business is running at peak performance.

Celebrate your successes

I often tell my client to celebrate their successes.

Deep down we all love a bit of praise for a job well done. It might come from family, friends, colleagues, or clients, but just a simple “thank you,” “well done” or “that was great” can make us feel a whole lot better.

But sometimes it might feel as though compliments are in short supply. Maybe someone in your close family thinks “you should get a proper job” or “why are you bothering with that” and it can hurt.

Make sure when you do have a success you share it with people who will support and celebrate with you.

So will you help me celebrate?

This month has been absolutely amazing for me. Why?

1 –  I got given Member of the Week by Network Central.

This is from over 10,000 registered users, across 4 networking platforms, I was recognised for the effort I put into not only running 4Networking meetings, being part of 1Networking, engaging on the Network Central Social Media platform, but also for the support and time I give to other members and teams to help them understand how to get the most from networking.

2 – I found out I was a finalist in Networker of the Year award at Business Success Recognition awards 2022.

From nearly 600 nominations, again I was recognised as being worthy enough for my nomination and supporting comments to be sent over to the judges  – Ian, Marine, Sarah, Abid and Emma, fo them to decide if I am good enough to win this prestigious award.

Good luck to everyone in all categories and I look forward to seeing you all at the awards dinner in June.

3 – Final throws of book collaboration

I’ve been writing my first book since Christmas and it’s going to be published next month. This was an idea which has come out of a friendship formed with Jenny Leggott from Transcend Zero, met through 4Networking,

So the first book in the Focus Guru Series, “Focus Guru – 52 ways to achieve your work life balance” was born!

We had a call between Christmas and New year, decided we could together come up with 52 tips on work / life balance and make a book. Less than 5 Months later, we have now added Jonathan Smythe to our collaboration. Here’s a sneaking peak at part of the back cover.

Sneak peak at part of the back cover

4 – Free marketing

I am passionate about making the most of everything a membership organisation offer to me. Part of my Network Central membership is the ability to go onto their social media platform and use it to raise awareness of myself and my business.

One of the best ways to do this is to get what is called “a full house”. This is where your name and picture is on every the front screen of every room. Just like this!

Full House - raising my profile
Full House – raising my profile

It means that everyone visiting the site has to see my name and my picture. The chances are if I track my profile views before getting the full house and after, there will be more visits to my profile after. This means more people will know about me, what I do and how I can help them than before I achieved the full house.

So remember, you should be celebrating every win.

What wins can you celebrate form this week?

Leo, a Lion and a Fall. Why this relates to myself & business.

Introducing Leo and MYSELF

Let me introduce you to Leo. He was a 5 month old Collie / Alsatian cross when we rescued him last November. Now, just 8 months old he’s growing in confidence and character.

What an 8 month old collie / Alsatian cross can teach you bout MYSELF
Leo 8 month old collie / Alsatian cross

The Incident

His confidence in us is growing, his confidence when he came across a stone lion, on the left, in the dusk wasn’t so high. He saw it out the corner of his eye, thought (or I think he thought) “PREDATOR RUN”.

And that he is what he tried to do. Unfortunately he was attached to me! In a split second I was on the pavement / road landing nose first, knees next! Leo was at the full extent of my right arm and lead away from me in the middle of the road.

The next day I carried on as normal, going for walks, going to his training lesson looking like I’d been 10 rounds with Mike Tyson to my face and with aching, very swollen knees! It’s just bruising I thought.

A week went by

Deciding to take time off from my part time role was a must, I wasn’t focussing I wasn’t concentrating and I was in pain.

ENOUGH I told myself!

I got a physio appointment and went for my assessment.

Turns out I’ve damaged both ligaments either side of my left knee as well as given myself a swollen fluid sack beneath the knee cap. Rest, Ice, Heat, a knee support and elevation were needed.

Time to put MYSELF first!

You’re longest serving, highest income generating client.

I need to put myself first for the next 5 weeks, no driving. Flat short pavement walks only. No holding Leos lead in case I twisted my knee when reacting to him.

Working with my clients about their time management mindset, I teach them all that you’re longest serving, highest income generating client is the same for them, as it is for me, as it is for you.

It’s MYSELF

Without myself, you have no family, no friends, no business, no employment, no way of generating cash or servicing those you people you need to be there for.

I had to put MYSELF first. I reduced my part time hours, I worked sometimes from the sofa. I got lifts to my face to face networking events. I asked for help and support.

Everyone of my clients fully understood I need to put myself first.

So my question to you is

When did you last put MYSELF first?

Do comment or email me and let me know when you last put MYSELF first.

Why I think I had less reactions to my 1st Covid vaccination than my hubby

What reactions have I had?

I had my 1st vaccination 5 hours ago and so far I’ve had no reactions at all. The injection itself was less painful than the Depo injection I have every 3 months. The fact the Depo is also injected into the muscle means I didn’t feel the pain, really.

My hubby by now was complaining of a sore arm, a fever, a headache amongst other things.

I had less pain than my Hubby after the injection
I had less pain than my Hubby after the injection

I don’t have medical training, this is just my thoughts.

I want to clarify, I don’t have medical training or nutritional training. These are my pondering on my choices, sharing some of the information I’ve been given and listen to. This me thinking about the things I do but my Hubby doesn’t and why I think they have helped me with my reactions so far.

Why am I sharing this?

I’ve seen other friends share on Social media and in very safe groups about how they have been affected by having the vaccine and if I can help someone I know to not have as bad a reaction as my Hubby, I really want to help them.

It’s not all about Genetics.

In my view it’s not all about my genetics, as a family member keeps insisting and the hubby keeps reiterating to me. The person saying this has no medical training, no training in genetics. They refuse ,as does my hubby, to accept it could be down to my choices of supplements, the fact I listen to friends who are on the front line and follow their advice.

DNA Helix String
It’s not all about the genes

What advice did I get?

This is written in the order I did things, not in order of preference or bias.

24 hours before your appointment.

  1. PARACETAMOL My friend who works on the front line said to me, she had heard taking paracetamol for 24 hours before you have the jab (injection). I did this, don’t know if it made a difference, however when I’m given advice from someone on the front line who is around people with medical knowledge, as well as having medical knowledge themselves I’m going to listen.

  2. SUPPORT YOUR IMMUNITY. As part of my daily routine I normally have 1 sachet of Immunity Support each day. In the 24 hours before my jab I upped this to 2. A single serving of this vegan food supplement pouche are a convenient way to get essential vitamins and minerals along with an instant pick me up any time or any place.

  3. Drink more water. As a rule I already drink loads of water, I have a litre of water with a supplement that helps support cognitive performance including aspects like memory and learning and a supplement that delivers a blend of electrolytes to support isotonic balance and rehydrates cells to promote proper muscle function. In the morning especially if I’m on a heavy computer day as I need to keep hydrated when working at the computer.

No downside to drinking more water
No downside to drinking more water

1 hour before your appointment

  1. Take 2 paracetamol, again I don’t know if this helped but as mentioned I didn’t find the injection painful nor has my arm become painful so maybe it does help.

  2. Take 1 Sachet of the Immunity support. I took a sachet of my immunity support supplement an hour before so my body had time to absorb it.

After the appointment

  1. Another friend of mine, who is a volunteer organiser for the vaccination appointments, advise taking regularly paracetamol for 24 / 48 hours after the appointment. They advised that the younger generation (40s) struggle more with the vaccination in general than the older generation, their own sons had a much more severe react than they did. They advised that paracetamol every 4 hours for 24 / 48 hours really helps with managing / reducing the symptoms.

  2. 4 hours after my appointment I took another sachet of immunity support sachet.

Currently (5 hours) after the injection

We’ve just got back from a dog walk, during which I called into Tesco to pick up some new food and some some fish to add to her current food to see if we can’t tempt her to eat it. We also needed a loaf, in case I do have worse symptoms tomorrow. I carried the shopping home, a mile and a half and have no pain in my arm.

I have no headache, I’m not shivering, I’m not feeling tired. I’m writing this watching the Eprix.

Home from a dog walk & shopping trip

What do I differently to my hubby?

1 – Positive Mental Attitude.

My hubby has been telling me, “I’ll get worse” or “Your arm will start hurting later” or “You just wait”. Every time my response was “I’ll be fine”. The family member I mentioned earlier had been telling him since he got the date we would react badly and should expect to really struggle. I think he got into his head to expect nothing else.

I believe that a positive mental attitude and the self believe that you’ve done everything to help your body deal in the best way to jab is the huge part of the battle.

2 – Listen to people with knowledge.

Hubby listened to hearsay, his main advisor was someone with no medical training. The only experience they had a of being jabbed was their own and their partners.

I listened to people who are on the front line, have medical knowledge and took their advice.

3 – I use supplements

As a couple we do eat well, we cook most things from scratch using herbs from my garden and later on in the year we have salads and veg from the garden too. However I believe in putting myself first and I work with my clients on the easiest way to do this too.

So give my body the best chance to deal with the jab, the supplements I have used which my Hubby doesn’t have given my body the additional supplements of:

  • Vitamin C

  • Zinc

  • Selenium

  • Naturally derived caffeine from Green Tea Leaf and Guarana Seed

  • Vitamin E

  • Vitamin A

Do they actually make a difference? I don’t know but I’m feeling a lot better than he was.

4 – Paracetamol Regularly

I have taken paracetamol regularly before and since my jab, my hubby only took it once he was feeling very ill.

5 – Ignore your arm

The more you focus on something, the more you subconscious focuses on it and the more you worry about what’s going on. My hubby was constantly looking at his arm, seeing if “he had stopped bleeding” or “if he’d got lunch” or “if it ached more”!

I have an arm, like I have a back, a bum, a neck, a face. Don’t focus on it and your subconscious won’t.

6 – Drink more water

There is no downside to drinking more water,

Conclusion

I’ve shared here what I’ve done differently to my hubby and I do believe that some, if not all of it, has meant I’ve had less a reaction to the jab.

Do You Follow Up 121 Or One To Many?

I’ve talked lots about the benefits of following up after networking meetings and I’d like to share two different strategies to help you make the most of your follow-ups without experiencing overwhelm or getting distracted by…Squirrels!

Ban the Squirrels, take back control
Ban the Squirrels, take back control

When I attend a new networking meeting, I know I’ll meet around twenty people each time. Over the course of a week I might meet over a hundred new people plus catching up with people I’ve already met. Without a proper follow-up strategy in place it could be very time consuming and difficult to keep track of who asks for more information and who wants to order from me.

If someone doesn’t want my services or need them right now, I can also keep track of potential opportunities where I can recommend that person to speak with other people that I’ve met networking. An example of this would be recommending a mortgage advisor or removal company to someone looking to move home or office, or a mechanic to someone who needs help with their car.

Having lots of networking contacts helps you become a problem solver, simply by connecting people together who might not have met each other. To make the most of your contacts, it’s important to follow up with them regularly, adding value with each conversation.

I attended Rachael’s Follow Up training session and afterwards I felt motivated and immediately implemented some of the things we discussed. I will be back to carry on and will book a further Follow Up session!” – Liz Johnson, Pet Health and Welfare Specialist

There are two main strategies for following up and these are 121 Follow Ups and One To Many Follow Ups. They each have value and can be used successfully depending on how much time you can invest in your follow-ups and how you prefer to carry out your follow-ups.

121 Follow Ups

As the name implies, you’re following up one to one, you and the other person. This is a great way to continue a 121 meeting and find out more about the other person. It offers you the chance to get to know someone better and consequently find out if they want or need what you do, or whether they can be someone you can recommend or refer to another of your networking contacts in the future.

In my Focus Guru Networking Follow Up Power Hour I talk more about the power of 121 Follow Ups and how you can implement technology solutions to make your follow up process simple and stress-free.

One To Many Follow Ups

A “One To Many” follow up typically involves a generic message talking about what you do and how people can find out more. You can also include a call to action and a special offer or a time-limited offer, as well as your website and social media links.

One of the most successful ways to do this is to address a problem your contacts might be having and show them how your product or service can remove the problem and/or the cause of the problem. You can write this in the content of your message and track which of your contacts opens the message and what they do next. With many mailing list solutions you’ll also have access to see whether they click on the links inside your message as well.

I cover making the most of your message tracking information in my Focus Guru Power Hour and highlight exactly how important it is to know your numbers when carrying out a methodical follow-up process to maximise your time, energy and resources when following up.

How Being Consistent On Social Media Is One Of The Keys To Business Success

Nobody says being consistent is easy at first, but I will promise you that it makes a big difference. Just think about the most prominent brands on the market and you’ll spot they all have something in common. They are consistent. They’re always on your social media radar and through Focus Guru I’ll show you how you can do the same for your business too.

Being Consistent brings results
Being Consistent brings results

It doesn’t matter whether you make and sell your own products or services, or if you’re part of a network marketing team selling pre-packaged items, being consistent in your marketing and on social media makes a huge difference. If you’re part of a network marketing team, perhaps with Arbonne, Utility Warehouse, Forever Living, Enjo, PartyLite, or Tropic, you might already be using your company marketing material and upline support.

But do you use your marketing tools consistently?

Are you posting on social media regularly?

Have you made the most of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs and Email to attract new customers?

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, please contact me. If you would like more sales, please contact me and I can help. To do this, I’m offering a free 15 minute chat for business owners to help uncover anything which may be stopping you from being consistent in your social media.

A quick phone call with Rachael has led to a page of notes with ideas and steps to take to help both of my Wedding and Kids businesses take a step forward!” – Charlotte Elizabeth

The free 15 minute chat may uncover areas in your personal life which are be preventing you spending time on business activities, and vice versa. For example, through the chat we may discover you’re more productive in the morning, perhaps there is less stress or fewer interruptions. It makes sense to keep this time free to complete your core activities, the “big rocks”. Equally, if the chat identifies you’re carrying out the school run ten times a week, don’t count on these hours to write your weekly newsletter.

In the Focus Guru Power Hours I’ll help identify your “best hours”, the times during the day where you can carry out the marketing tasks to propel your business towards a consistent social media presence. I’ll cover how to use Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs and Email consistently, without any stress or overwhelm. Having a consistent approach pays off in many ways.

“Definitely worth a phone call, Rachael had thought of marketing ideas I hadn’t even considered or thought of!” – Charlotte Elizabeth

Building consistency into your marketing has far-reaching and sometimes unexpected results. It can take many contacts with a prospective customer before they are ready to buy from you. Estimates range from two or three contacts to more than twenty times. That means someone may need to see your marketing message twenty times before they buy from you.

I help make the process of being consistent really simple and easy to implement. Taking out a Focus Guru package makes sure your marketing message is delivered on time each day or each week in front of your targeted customers. You can choose exactly when and where your social media marketing is posted and if you need help writing the content, I can arrange this for you too!

Are You A “Messy Desk” Person And Does It Matter?

Albert Einstein is famously quoted as saying, “If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

and there’s certainly evidence to support a theory that a messy desk belongs to someone with a streak of creativity, thinking outside of the box ideas, an entrepreneur or inventor, perhaps even someone with a touch of genius.

“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”
“If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?”

But if your messy desk is causing you stress or overwhelm, don’t panic! I can help. I won’t be able to tidy your desk for you, but I will empower you with real strategies to tackle the mess, to become more organised and show you how to restore order to chaos. I do this through Focus Guru Power Hours, where you’ll learn key skills to apply in your business and at home and achieve your goals.

Rachael has great ideas and a fantastic system for getting yourself organised. Certainly worth a conversation to explore options.” – Sharon Broer

How Desks Get Messy

For some people, the flat surface of a desk becomes a magnet for clutter. It can only take a few minutes for a coffee cup, unopened post, receipts hastily scooped out of a wallet, a phone charger, loose papers and a multitude of other items start balancing one on top of the other. There comes a point when you don’t know if your desk is black or white or made of wood or metal, because it has vanished out of sight! Was there a mouse and keyboard somewhere under the clutter?

Possible Consequences

Loss of time is almost certainly a possible consequence. How long does it take you to find your car key, a client’s phone number, or the agenda for your next meeting? Not keeping on top of your paperwork can lead to losing client enquiries, failing to attend meetings and missing important deadlines. But it can also lead to feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. You may find you experience a tension headache, or backache. A messy desk also attracts dust, dirt and mould.

How To Change

In my Focus Guru Power Hours I will help identify the messy triggers in your life. Without fail, there is always a reason why you don’t file your receipts, or you have random phone numbers written on post-its. I can teach you systems and processes to manage clutter so that it doesn’t build up unmanageably. I will recommend strategies to make sure you don’t run out of time or energy to keep on top of things. The key skills are “Organisation” and “Accountability” and in your Focus Guru Power Hour you’ll learn exactly how to put these in place.

Why It Matters

Decluttering is proven to make us feel good. It’s satisfying to feel on top of clutter and mess. This doesn’t mean you can’t still have a coffee cup on your desk, or that you have to move every piece of paper into a filing system (or the bin). It’s about creating a positive working environment to enable you to sit at your desk, knowing what needs to be done, by when, and freeing up your time to pursue your goals.

Your Next Step To Achieving A Tidy Desk

I’ve mentioned Focus Guru Power Hours where in sixty minutes we’ll chat and I’ll guide you through proven strategies to improve your organisation and accountability skills. You’ll find the benefits reach far beyond whether your desk is tidy or cluttered. These are strong habits you’ll be forming to help you achieve more in your work and personal life.

Those goals you thought were out of reach will become achievable and the best part is you don’t need to leave your desk to participate! I offer a free 15 minute consultation to establish where you would like to start and give you a choice of Focus Guru Power Hours to help solve your most pressing problems.

Remember To Treat Yourself As Well As Looking After Everyone Else

It’s very easy to get rushed off your feet looking after the wants and needs of other people. This could be answering questions for colleagues at work, finishing tasks out-of-hours for a boss, making sure your children are fed, clothed and entertained. It could be helping a neighbour with their shopping or checking in on relatives who may have been self-isolating during lockdown.

Top Tip - Make time for a long soak in a soothing bath this month
Top Tip – Make time for a long soak in a soothing bath this month

To make sure you can carry on helping others it’s important to take care of yourself. When flying, there’s the safety talk at the start of the flight advising passengers to “put your own oxygen mask on first” and this makes sense. How can you look after someone else when you’re running out of air?

Luckily, help is at hand! You really don’t have to do everything yourself, all the time. Through collaboration with others, learning accountability and extra time management skills can make a big difference. I can help with these things, but I also wanted to share with you the power of looking after yourself through something as simple and straightforward as making time to treat yourself.

Detox and Relax

Making time in your diary to relax and recharge is a vital part of keeping the balance between being busy and being stressed. It’s great to be busy, jumping from one job to the next to the next. But it can be draining on your time and your energy and this is where scheduling in “relax and recharge” time is essential for your mental and physical health.

When we feel good, we enjoy life more. The knock-on effect of being happy often makes us more outgoing and more productive. We achieve more and look for new opportunities.

Make Time for Bath Time

This is my top tip today! At least once a month, make time to run yourself a deep bath and immerse yourself in warm water to soothe troubles away. Add a shake of Arbonne’s Rescue & Renew Detox Soak dissolving sea salt crystals into the mix and you’re set for an aromatic journey whisking you away from anything that’s playing on your mind.

Let the pure essential oils cleanse and revitalise your skin. With natural ingredients such as grapefruit, tangerine, lavender, juniper berry, orange, rosemary, dandelion, turmeric and ginger root, you’ll be transported into a luxurious blend of smells and senses revitalising you inside and out.

I’ve been using Arbonne products myself for many years and can thoroughly recommend the Rescue & Renew range of sensual, relaxing and revitalising ways to relax and recharge. The products are vegan, cruelty free, gynaecologic and allergy tested, meaning they can be used safely no matter your skin type or skin sensitivity.

I’m an Arbonne Consultant and can advise on health, nutrition and skincare, offering advice and accountability to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle with more energy to enjoy the things you love.

Squirrels are the activities which steal your time and energy away from ticking the items off your Achievement List. They’re subtly distracting you from your long term goals. It’s the “five minute phone call” that lasts an hour. It’s the “just a quick look” you promise someone. It could be receiving a Facebook notification saying you’ve been tagged in a photo, or a discount voucher email from your favourite shop. Anything that takes you away from what you wanted to get done.

Squirrels can take a minute, or an hour, or a day. While they undoubtably provide short term satisfaction and entertainment, let’s face it, squirrels are really cute, they can be a menace if you have a deadline to meet or a place you need to be.

Have you got a friend who’s always late when you arrange to meet up? Do you know someone who can’t stop checking their phone? Maybe you’re the person who seems to be here, there and everywhere? The reason could be squirrels!

This isn’t to be confused with being genuinely busy.

It’s perfectly possible to enjoy squirrels once you’ve achieved everything you wanted to get done. Sometimes what looks like a squirrel will become an important item on your Achievement List. But, things may not always go to plan. Things will crop up and take your attention. It could be a family emergency. It could be a client needs to rearrange a meeting. Things inevitably will happen outside our control.

This is where it’s essential to have the self-discipline to recognise what needs doing and what’s a squirrel. With great time management, accountability and outsourcing, it’s possible to achieve everything you want to do and still have time to have fun.

I’m a “Go To Person” who loves helping people improve time management and accountability skills. I work with individuals and teams, identifying your unique squirrels and creating innovative solutions to streamline your systems and processes. This might include suggestions for outsourcing or automating tasks which can be performed cheaper and quicker, leaving your time free to focus on what you need to do.
